What is an Eight Treasures bottle vase table lamp?
This hand painted Chinese blue and white porcelain table lamp with a bottle vase body is also known as a Tianqiuping or 'Globular' vase. These were first produced during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) and they are characterized by their heavily rounded globular bodies and long straight neck. This shape and form was popular during the Qing dynasty (1644-1911) and it was especially favored in the imperial court during the Qianlong reign period (1736-1795).
This vase is decorated with the Eight Treasures, also known as the Eight Precious Things, or babao in Chinese. The Eight Treasures are a small, but popular subset of a much larger list and decorative pattern of the Hundred Treasures, also known as the Hundred Antiques which became popular in the 17th century and is commonly found in Chinese art during the Qing dynasty.
The Eight Treasures on this vase are floating among clouds, as they scroll around the body, shoulder, and neck of this piece.
1) The wish-granting pearl. Also known as the flaming pearl which symbolizes the granting of wishes.
2) The double lozenges. These symbolize happiness in marriage and they counteract maleficent influences.
3) The stone chime. This symbolizes a just and upright life.
4) The pair of rhinoceros horns. These symbolize happiness.
5) The double coins. These symbolize wealth.
6) The gold or silver ingot. Known as yuanbao in Chinese, these are small good luck coins that symbolize prosperity and good fortune.
7) The "iron tree" coral. This treasure from the sea symbolizes longevity and official promotion among the nine grades of government ranks.
8) The wish-granting scepter. Known as ruyi in Chinese, this word literally means "as one wishes", but it has a cultural meaning dating back thousands of years to the Yellow Emperor and the Han dynasty. It has become a rich symbol of power, peace, and happiness for the Chinese people.

Shade measurements and related details below are specific to the lamp, shade, base, and finial shown in the first image of the picture gallery. While some images may depict wider shade trims, please be aware that all shades come with a 1/2" trim only.

WARNING: Never use ammonia-based cleaning agents to clean any part of this lamp. These agents will cause an acrylic or Lucite base to become cloudy which is irreversible once damaged. They will also remove the finish from a rosewood stand or wooden lamp base.
When cleaning an acrylic base and porcelain lamp body, use only a non-abrasive damp cloth, preferably a microfiber towel or lint-free cloth. Dampen the cloth with warm water and wipe down the lamp and base.
When cleaning a wooden or rosewood base, never use water or liquid cleaning agents. Use only a dry non-abrasive lint-free cloth. Do not dampen the cloth as this will remove the rosewood or gold leaf finish.
Hardback shades are not washable. To clean the hardback shade, only use a dry, soft microfiber towel or lint-free cloth and wipe down gently until all noticeable dust and dirt is removed.
